September Update

Ok.. here are some pictures of the new bathroom. Its slowly coming together. I will be doing a painting across those doors of a branch and cherry blossoms. Just waiting for Bill to quit messing with it. See the cute Frog door pulls he found? Awesome!!
All Wood surfaces are a rich Mahogany. The colors here are washed out by the flash.

Countdown.. 2 days till Oregon Flock and Fiber. Looks like its Ginger (driving) Emma, Jane and I. Hope we all snore. Cuz, I do. I'm so nervous..and excited!! I don't have a decent camera anymore so hope someone brings a digital.

Jerico gave up on buying a Sailboat. He went out yesterday and Paid cash for a Landrover!! WHITE! It was noted that if I traded my Bronco out for the Lil Mercedes around the corner ( that I LOVE and is for sale ) that we'd all have WHITE cars!! Is that a bad thing?

Its September

Time is moving way to fast! Where did the summer go? I think I only saw a few days that were actually hot! Sigh... I hate being cold!

The bathroom remodel is coming along slowly. At least the shower is done..so we're clean. Now, we are working on a Linen closet. I painted and primed the shelves that are now a lovely Aloe green same as the walls around the shower.

Next come the doors. Bill has been working on them for weeks. Seems an Old neighbor gave him just the perfect doors, when they moved away.. 10 years ago. They were so perfect he had to add wood at the bottom and add a piece of mahogany to the inside edge. OH, and so things don't get damp he fashioned a dealie to make round holes the size of CDs in the top and bottom of each door. He spent all day yesterday making mahogany slats to fit in the holes. One little strip at a time.. amazing. I will be painting the doors today. With the slats they should have an Oriental feel. I have planned a simple mural across them with minimal branches and leaves and a few red berries. Its a theme I use on alot of my art projects. I may have to put a light spray of a willow yellow where the mural is going because I think the green will wash out the leaves. I can maybe use the airbrush for that. Haven't used it in years. Thinking with my fingers again..lol

On the Knitting scene......working on socks for Marshall out of Dalegran Falk in a not to annoying charcoal color on size 5's. Going really fast.

Bought (I know I said I wouldn't buy anymore yarn, so I lied) some mushroom zephyr to make the lily of the valley shawl out of. Can't wait to start it but need to finish Marsh's socks first.
Jyll came knitting,at Village Yarn and Tea, Saturday. It was wonderful. I miss having my daughter inlaw close by. She made me (pfffft) buy pale green tofutsie sock yarn.

Got to play with the grandkids when we went home. Always amazes me to see them. They grow to fast!! My middle son is 31 now..to me he's still that dreamy looking 17 yr. old. He used to have lustrous waist length hair that I would braid and run my fingers threw while he sat at the computer. He's buzz cut it all off.. can't get used to that.

Ginger and Emma tell me I'm going to Oregon Flock and Fiber with them in a couple weeks. I haven't gone anywhere without Bill in so long....will be really wierd. I'll try to have a good time tho. I'll have to buy yarn.. or roving.. its like a rule.. isn't it? Oh my goodness.. sigh.. whatever shall I do!!

Life as I know it

Just a quick catch up. Life has been a bit more interesting then usual. Not in a totally bad way.
My Eldest son, Jerico is staying in the "Yarn Room" till he can get his own Apt/boat.. whatever. Trying to talk him into sharing an apt with Marshall but so far I hear. I'm 40 and I need my own place. So, whatever! So.. ahem.. he lives with his parents. Oh well, its only till November when he goes back to his ship. He got a few months off.

Its interesting having him around. I always enjoy his humor. There is Alot of laughing when he's around and alot of running around it the car. Usually, its really quiet around here. So, it livens up the joint. Till it gets old.. anyway. I never heard anyone discuss heatedly with the Tv set ,like he does. And, laugh wildly with the same old commercials. Its amusing.. for the moment.

I am knitting. Socks mostly. I can't seem to resist the new sock yarns. I mean.. I don't really 'wear' socks. I'm a barefoot person. But, they are just so pretty!! On the needles now I have a pair of blue/purple megaboot socks. I had to cut off the toe and make them longer. Do you ever just wanna get them done NOW and do that? Well I guess I did. Also, started a pair of Grey socks for Marshall, who actually wears them. He's told me he LOVES them and even ventured into Village Yarn and Tea to pick out yarn for more pairs. Theres a good kid for ya.
I seriously(eyes to heaven) want to make the shawl that I posted below. Every yarn I've tried so far is to fat or to something. Annie's Pearl isn't going to work. I have to much of this yarn and not enough of that. I guess, I should just suck it up and buy more yarn but I'm trying reallly hard not to buy more yarn. Theres no more room in the drawers!

Mammogram Bus

Village Yarn and Tea has had the BIG Swedish Hospital Mammogram Bus every summer since they opened (I think). I missed it last year and everyone raved about how easy it was. This is never easy for me. I won't get into specifics......lets just say I hate it.

I signed up this year. This is always the hardest thing for me to do each year. I hate it. OH, I said that. Well, I'm hoping the bus will be better and being with friends will make it easier. Plus, I think they are giving Goodie bags which might be worth all the pain and mental anquish. Might!

Baby sitting

Jayda(almost 4) and Trysten(5) Saturday at Grandma and Grandpas house. Don't they have amazing Eyes? Then theres Eryka (11) and Bryce who is just over 1.. oh and Grandma who needs make-up and maybe some haircolor. Scared myself. I look like my mom!! Eww!!

Knitting content .. at last

After over a month of the "Knitting slump" I'm back in the groove. It took alot of spinning(which isn't technically knitting even tho it feeds it) and 2 pairs of fingerless mitts. I've made..mmm.. who knows..how many pairs of these mitts, maybe 10. I kinda sorta, made up the pattern myself and will post it when I figure out how to word things. Its "kinda sorta" cuz there are about a gazillion fingerless mitt patterns out there. Mine can only be a teeny original, I'm sure.

I finished spinning "Annies Pearl" Dyed by the "Ever Popular" Emma. It will be going into a shawl from Lace Style .
Altho my handspun yarn isn't LACE weight it is very thin. I think if I use a larger needle that it will be somewhat Airy.
I have actually figured out the provisional cast on (I think) and done 2 rows. I read over the pattern and didn't stare into space going "HUH"? Like I did other lace shawl patterns I'd looked at. Why do charts have to be so damn complicated!!? I really DO love knitting lace as long as it doesn't give me a Migraine. My brain doesn't work like it used to.

As for the Bathroom..its coming along. Work goes slow but at least it goes a little further each day. Bill had me pick up a rack for the ,dry side of the shower,for my shampoos etc. because the built in soap tray isn't bottle friendly. It has little ridges to keep the soap from getting slimey but shampoo bottles (full.. brand new bottles) tip and fall on your foot and possibly break a metatarsal. Which the bruises on my right foot might be. I don't know but it sure is colorful. Mostly I think it just irritated some bone spurs I've been fighting for years..so..owie owie owie.

Got to babysit my friend Cynthia's son, Jaden for the whole day. What a joy he was. Never cried except when she left for work. I forgot, however, how energetic 9 mo olds can be, as he climbed me like a tree every 5 min. While hanging on to my hands for support. I slept for 2 days after.
Today, Saturday, I get to baby sit the Grandkids. Not sure if its 3 or all 4 we get. I rarely see them anymore. Wyatt and Jyll bought a house in Granite falls. While not being on the moon, exactly, is still a long way away for someone like me who doesn't drive more the 5 miles from home..ever. So Saturday Knitting Ladies and Roger..and Brad.. I won't be there this week. I will miss you. Sniff!

Bad Girls Club

My friend Judy Gregerson's new young adults book is finally out!! I read all the reviews on Amazon.com and everyone has good things to say about it. I read the first half and put the book away.. securely.. I'll find it and finish someday ..lol
I met Judy in 1992. She homeschooled her daughters for a few years. Most people know I homeschooled my youngest..Marshall from 4th grade to graduation. Judy and I have remained friends all this time. She is very good about keeping in touch with me. I'm afraid I just get self involved and forget to call people. She tells me the phone works both way..lol. I'm very lucky to have her.

Walls up ..Plastering being completed. The important plastering has been done and painted a lovely shade of green called Aloe (something). Its more GREEN then Mint. But, I'm loving it.

Bathroom Update

Just for those who care... The shower redo is nearly done. The Pan has been fiberglassed and looks wonderful. The pan has been laid and the walls puttied and braced. One wall a day for a week. There were 5 pieces. Its WHITE, CLEAN.. and I'm loving it!!
Still have my fingers crossed that I get a Linen closet next to the shower and that he finishes the upper walls with something. The plan is wall board. Which means paint. I can do that!!

Bathroom Chic

Some of you know the Saga of the Shower surround. For those of you who don't I'll give a short recap.
The Saga Begins: We built our addition starting when we were in our late 20's. Its never really been finished. But, it will work for now. When does make do become forever?
Many moons ago ..maybe last summer (and 30 yrs later). My husband finally found the shower surround he wanted for our upstairs bathroom(aka The "I've seen nicer bathrooms in condemned buildings). $700 later we had the kit arrive only to find out that it had been damaged. Box was torn and pieces munched a little. I called the company and they put through the Damage paperwork and about 3 weeks later we got another kit! This time it had wooden palettes all around and was perfect. I asked the secretary if we had to ship the damaged one back..hee hee.. Nope!! I like that! Maybe we can use the damaged one on the downstairs tub. Shhh, its a secret! Since that time the shower wall pieces have been in the hallway upstairs..next to my bedroom. I run my fingers over the faux tiles every night and dream.
The further adventures of a shower stall:
Saturday.. the weekend before the 4th of July.. out comes the shower pan. Ooops, broke the previously broken corner, again. We bought it in a salvage yard. Well, the first time we fixed it we were in our 30's..we know more now. Lets make a mold of the good corner so he can fiberglass it proper this time. Sounds like a deal to me!! I can help!! I've been a potter for 25 years. I've read many articles on mold making. Did some research on the internet and First mold was Plaster of Paris..to much water..crumbled.. Hello garbage can. #2 was a cement product.. worked PERFECT. Not to dramatic.. and very interesting. We love working together.

Three days of Fiberglassing and you can't tell it ever was broken. Three trips to Lowes to buy and return Cement backerboard etc. A Special Tub paint kit makes it so bright white and perfect ya need shades to look at it.
In between layers of fiberglass he took care of any rot in the floor (was a bit, mmm, well alot). Bill fixes all that... bang bang bang till all hours. It is 4th of July week we figured no one would really notice. So far so good!
Oh oh, What do you mean you put a screw threw the cold water pipe?! WHAT? We can't even use the toilet? SIGH!! Not that sitting on the toilet and talking to him in the garage through the hole in the floor was such a wonderful thing, anyway...lol. Not to worry. He'll fix it!!
So.. as of the 4th of July.
1. Shower pan refiberglassed- looks better then ever
2. Painted with special paint
3. Walls and floors ripped out and replaced with new wood. Do I want a Linen closet (HELL YA)
4. Cold water pipe replaced..lol.. these things happen. In the works as I type.

Tomorrow he's back to Boeing and can relax for a few days. I'm sure he'll work in the eventings on it. But the real nasty messy work is mostly over. Not to worry... we have a 2nd bathroom.
OH OH I hear water running in the Garage!!!!

Recognition

Fathers day.. been and gone. While Wyatt was here (our middle son) he showed us that he'd been interviewed and published in a Magazine!! Yes, Another one.. and in English!! Lol..last time, I think it was Chinese. Check it out: Wyatts Interview
Wyatt has been designing cars and other things since he was a teenager. I like to think that my small graphic design business got his creativity working. He has always been a good artist.
So, this is part of his side business!! If you can believe that. I'm hoping that he will get so much design work that he has to quit his day job. Then he can spend more time with his 4 kids and work from home... his ultimate goal, I think.

Catch up time

Yesterday my husband brought me home 2 fleeces from his friend, Rich, at work. Thanks Rich!! One black, one white. Now I need to find a box to send them off to Dawns Custom carding.

I have been knitting on the blue sweater and the wrap from the story below. But, having a Knitting block! Think I'll spin for awhile. I have a ton to spin up.

Thursday Group at Village Yarn and Tea has an Official name now: Church Of The Holy Stitch. We came upon that one because of Anna Marie, who is a sometimes member and an Episcopalian Priest(I think thats the right church). Tho you'd never know it from talking to her. She is great fun. A total sweetheart with a questionable sense of humor.

So, 7 Random things about me.

#1 My husband Bill and my 3 Boys (Jerico,Wyatt(Jyll) & Marshall) and thier kids (Eryka, Trysten, Jayda,Bryce)and my extra kids
(Andrew, Grant, Shane & Marie) are the most important people in the world. Even the ones I only hear from occassionally.

#2 I got my first computer in 1982. I begged Bill not to buy it. I was afraid it would eat my brain. I think it did! I designed graphics for the TI99-4a for 4 years. Rarely walked far away from it. All the kids work in one computer field or another.

#3 As an add on to #2- I'm a video game Freak. For the last 4 years I've played Final Fantasy XI everyday. Heaven help anyone who asks me about it because I could talk about it for HOURS. A total geek!

#4 I hate Spiders!! I lived in Hawaii for a few years..in my hippy days.. One of my memorable stories is how while living in Waikiki I saw my first Cane spider and Screamed like I was being Stabbed. I had the Honolulu cops rushing into my apt. with guns drawn in less then a minute. How embarrassing. Cane spiders can be 5-6 inches across. Gives me heebie Geebies just writing about it!

#5 I love Cats...I could be the crazy cat lady!

#6 Inside I'm a sassy Victorian Princess.. all flowers and Lace. Sometimes some of that sneaks out in little ways. A lace blouse.. flowery hair something.

#7 I own at least 100 pairs of earrings. I have a rule. If I leave the house without earrings I have to buy some. Most of the 100 I made myself and would be overjoyed to make you a pair. I cannot resist BEADS.. that should be #8 but it only asked for 7.

Village Yarn and Tea - Touring Wrap

The big Shop hop was last weekend. VY&T had a free pattern for a sweet lacy wrap that looked easy and I already HAD some Lornas Laces (Helen's Lace) in pastel sherbert colors. I'm really loving this pattern. I started it Thursday and even managed to knit on it at the Dr. office. My hands shaking the whole time. I hate going to the Dr. But, I got outa there none the worse for wear and only one minor mistake in the knitting that I fixed while sitting in the room waiting.
I have a sweater I want to make for myself but have been waiting 3 weeks for the supplier to deliver the yarn to VY&T. Sigh.. Hope I still wanna make it when it finally gets here!! I have this all done in my head in a light aqua color.
I like how its fitted slightly and I always like doing cables. Ya.. I still love this sweater..lol
Delivered 18 new beads to VY&T. Some of them were totally different made to look likes leaves wrapped around. I ordered some maple leaf cookie cutters and will try using those next. OH, I roll my eyes when they ask for new beads but I really do enjoy making them. Just seems funny that after 20 years of trying to get my work in galleries that its the Beads that make it into a nice shop. Who could have guessed!!

Alpine Boots

I saw a pair of these worked in Tourquoise. I'm making a pair in Hot Pink with a Multi colored hairy yarn for the top.. blues/pink. I'm thinking Jayda might love them..lol
Also, have a sweater planned for her. She kinda got Gipped last time I handed out knit projects. She looked upset.
The sizes go to 9in.. I'm thinking.. Mmmmm.. wonder if I could make them fit me!
Think I'm making this sweater also for Jayda. I have several Lornas lace worsted skeins. Not as pretty as this tho.
This is a Knitting pure and simple pattern. A simple neck down raglan. She reminds me of Jayda for some reason.

Stupid car

For all my Saturday Knitting buddies. Husband is changing the power steering pump on my SUV today. Its been making horrible noises for months now. Leaking fluid and all that. So.. won't be there. I will miss you!

I'm in LOVE

I fell in love with this pattern from Magknits as soon as I saw it. Fighting with the bead needles I have at the moment but I'm going to Michaels tomorrow to find something that will work better. Urge to scream!!
I'll post pictures as soon as I have one finished. I think getting the beads on the thread is going to be the hard part..lol.
UPDATE: Got the needles, more beads and more thread. I tried really hard not to over shop seed beads. Looking at a variety pack I bought makes me want to get the bead loom out again.
UPDATE 2: I spent Saturday playing with the pattern and wondered why it looked loose. Having trouble keeping the beads from traveling into the next stitch. Then late that night I read blogs of people who have made this bracelet. One specifically was complaining about the size of the needles and thats when I realized. It wasn't 0 (2.0)I was supposed to be using but 0000 (1.25). Where the heck do I find those? I've never seen anything smaller then 0. Wait maybe I have.. at Village yarn and tea!! But, then I thought... Maybe.. I can use the pins I use to make my Spinning wheel threading hooks! We shall see if that works better. I really must want this bracelet BAD!!

Boys and Their Toys

What? Am I awake? I did WHAT??!!

Ginger has talked me into joining her and Emma at the Knitting Expo down by the Airport. I haven't been to a REAL fiber fair. I was hesitant but finally said ,"ok. What time? WHAT??" I didn't sleep most of the night. Didn't realize I'd be so excited!!
Its 7am (7 freaking AM) on a quiet Saturday morning. I'm awake..Really. If I tell you we hit the place like a pack of Ferrets.. does that conjure up a picture? OMG.. I was so restrained!! 3 bags of Roving in different pastelish colorings and some silk hankies in a colorway called Peacock.

Oh .. we didn't just hit the knitting Expo. Oh no, More madness occured! Emma found..on Craigs list.. an advertisement for a Cascade warehouse Sale. Can we say.. WHEEE HAAA! Whole bags of yarn for the price of 2 skeins. WHOLE BAGS!!! They are all laying on the bed in my spare bedroom. I have such an urge to unbag everything and lay in the middle of all of it. Happy happy.
We took our spoils by Village Yarn and Tea to show off and Terri was there. She has self published a beautiful book on Selbu mittens. I knitted a couple pairs and expected to get 1 or maybe 2 free books because of my work. But, NO, she hands me 5. Ya'll know what your getting for Christmas .. right? Hee hee

You go to the grocery store. Your right foot feels odd but then it does sometimes. Get the food..check out and as you walk to the car you look down and realize.. You have 2 totally different shoes on!! Not even the same color! AND, no one else noticed either!

I should make Bill his own Blog

Bill wanted to show everyone both the spindles he made. The one with the dark (black walnut) handle is "MINE"! He's been having so much fun making them. Not being a spinner himself he's been relying on what I say and what he reads. I also have about 8 spindles for him to compare against. These are the same weight or less of my favorite spindle which is kinda large. Its hard to get perspective. The Lathe is NOT a huge machine.. its called a Midi Lathe because its a fraction of the normal size. He used wood from tree limbs from our yard.. Maple and Cherry. The Black Walnut was from a small piece of wood his friend Lynn Weekly gave him YEARS ago. Lynn was/is a very special guy. We lost track of him after his back surgery. He went on the road in his motorhome. I hope he's enjoying life like he always did. I sure appreciate the beautiful piece of wood he gave us. If for some reason he sees this "CALL" damn it!

Marie's Spindle

Some of you have met my friend Marie. She is the neighbors daughter who came to the door at the age of 2 and asked if Marshall could play. I should mention that we had 4 in of snow and the only thing she was wearing were shoes. They were always best friends and she grew up here as much as she did at her moms. They climbed the trees in our yard. Marie and I spent alot of time together when she got older. I even homeschooled her for a year. She and I learned to spin together. She lives in California now.. she joined the Marines. She emailed me the other day and ask if I could get her a spindle and some roving. She missed spinning.
Well, I didn't wanna get her just any spindle. I thought if Bill (known as Mr. Bill to all the kids) could make her a spindle it would be MUCH more special. She loved to tease him and he her. I think he misses the Sassy girl who would steal his socks right off his feet and call him Dad (much to her mom and my confusion..lol) He thought about the spindle for a week and started it yesterday. His very first attempt. Its made out of wood from our big old maple tree and the Royal Anne cherry tree (that is now gone). Both trees that she and Marsh climbed. As I recall she liked to sit in the Maple tree. So, I'm hoping it will be one of her favorite things. I think "Mr. Bill" wanted it to be extra special.. turned out pretty, didn't it? It weighs about 2.25 oz. A comfortable size for someone who spins worsted weight/chunky yarn. Hope she loves it!!

Surprises in the Mail

Now, many have heard about my fleece failures of last year. I received 2 free fleeces and sent them out to Dawn's Custom carding be cleaned/carded etc only to have one be .. ewww *shudder*..buggy and the other was to long for the carder and then got lost in the mail!! I've done alot of business with Dawn and know others who have done ALOT more. So, I understood that these things happen. It wasn't her fault!!

WELL, today I received, out of NOWHERE, a box with the most beautiful grey/tan roving from Dawn. A, gee I'm sorry the Post Office f..... up gift. This is so SWEET of her. She deserves to be acknowledged for her thoughfulness.

Presents from Afar

Rebecca is so good to me! She wasn't even my Exchange partner. Both of our people pooped out on us. So we decided to exchange with each other.

SEE what she sent me today!

Purple Pimp yarn and the softest natural..I may do fairisle mitts this time. And, the chocolates, bless her heart, are sugarless! She also sent the cutest stickers..I love stickers almost as much as beads. Oh, and a St. Pattys day card that really fit me! My husband got a kick out of it. Sorry it got buried in the picture.

Speaking of beads... I made 25 more beads for Village Yarn and Tea. They are making wonderful use of them. Hopefully these will last them awhile. They are going threw them amazingly fast! I'm flattered that people like them that much. In all the years I've done ceramics and Pottery, beads were not something I spent to much time on. Funny thats whats selling now.
For some reason I can't fathom I bought $100 of cutesy beads ..lil glass butterflys, latte cups, tea cups, lady bugs and penguins and teapot findings. We'll see what I come up with. I'm thinking either stitch markers or bracelets. Either would be cute.. or..ahem.. BOTH.

Obligatory Post

I know.. I know.. I haven't said anything in ages. I'm knitting on one of Victoria's necklaces with one of My beads. I guess I should make ONE being I made 44 beads for VY&T. Thats been alot of fun. I didn't get any pictures because either my camera isn't working or husband can't take decent pictures of the beads.. to much glare off the glazes. This time I used some bright gold on them. Very fancy.
I also Spun up 2 lbs of Bubblegum pink roving. It made 9 skeins..not sure on the yardage. Was never any good at figuring that stuff. Next to spin is the shiny hot pink that Terri brought me back from Blacksheep last summer. Its gorgeous!!
Seems all I do lately is go knitting and stay home. I'm getting so boring.
Now its raining again.. so I'm stuck cleaning.. knitting.. spinning.. and playing Final Fantasy XI..sigh

Marshall's new place

The last place had some health issues. Rusty tap water. We fixed that with a filter and bottled water. Not that big of an issue. But,when he first moved in we noticed a dark spot on the ceiling..like it had leaked once upon a time. The day we looked at it, it had RAINED non stop for weeks and the spot wasn't even damp. So, we figured it had been properly fixed. But, during the windstorms we had in December 2006 it started leaking ,again! Two months later after a ton of complaints they still had not fixed it. Woah, they gave him a bucket..how nice. (sic) I'm so glad he got outa there.

So, He's moved, again! Hopefully, this will be the last time for awhile. The complex seems more a community then any of the places any of us have lived. The staff all live in the complex. We even noticed that people don't seem to move out much just move apts. Better floor plans more rooms or better views. They have 2 pools and nicely kept grounds.

The Picture of (Punk butt) Angel is for Cynthia and Charles, who gave Marshall the cat last year when she was a kitten, so they can see how she has gown.

The picture of her close to the fire is a camera angle thing. She's really not so close as to singe her whiskers. Picture was taken before it got really hot. He did say, she decided that laying out in front was a much better idea.

Buttons and Hooks

See what my husband made on his Lathe!! I needed a large button for a felted bag I made. The biggest one is the one I'll use for that and the smaller one will go on a sweater..I think.

I've been making Spinning wheel threading hooks so he thought he'd try his hand at making handles for them. Aren't they Pretty?

I was so admiring my neighbors Crocus. Mine are under a tree and take a little longer to open.
I get a call from Jerico (my oldest son) saying, "I'd take you to lunch but it seems to be snowing!" HUH?? Grrr. It sure is pretty tho' and we went to lunch anyway. I'm not afraid of a little snow.
When I woke up this morning there is more then a little..lol. About 4 inches. The kid in me says "Whooo hoooo!!" No, the kid isn't dead yet!



Got a new book. Lots of cute ideas. I was surprised that it was knitted felt that had to be cut. But, there are several patterns I love so I may try knitting up some wool on my Bond knitter to felt.
